Electricity, running water and a road allowing people to reach it.

For $29 million dollars the American people got “mostly just a big hole in the ground, local radio station KUCB reports.

Usually the federal government will not fund port construction if there is no infrastructure to support the port, the Army Corps of Engineers tells KUCB.

“Yes. It’s not normal. And it has prevented the construction of harbors in the past, when that supporting infrastructure is not there,” says Steve Boardman, head of the Corps’ civil projects division.

Building a road to reach the port won’t happen for at least another two years, and that will come at a cost of $11 million per mile.

Even if the Obama-funded port is ever connected to a road, or to electricity, or to running water, there’s no guarantee anyone will even want to use it.  The harbor will have 58 slips.  But locals only own five boats.

The survey of job creators, conducted by the National Association of Manufacturers and the National Federation of Independent Businesses, also finds:

• 67 percent say there is too much uncertainty in the market today to expand, grow or hire new workers.
• 69 percent of small business owners and manufacturers say President Obama’s Executive Branch and regulatory policies have hurt American small businesses and manufacturers.
• 55 percent say they would not start a business today given what they know now and in the current environment.
• 54 percent say other countries like China and India are more supportive of their small businesses and manufacturers than the United States.

“There is far too much uncertainty, too many burdensome regulations and too few policymakers willing to put aside their egos and fulfill their responsibilities to the American people,” said NAM president Jay Thomas.

“To fix this problem, we need immediate action on pro-growth tax and regulatory policies that put manufacturers in the United States in a position to compete and succeed in an ever-more competitive global economy.”

“They did. They gave us five tax proposals — plus one change to the criminal code — that every one of them could support wholeheartedly, from left to right.”

What were they?

1. Eliminate the mortgage tax deduction
2. End tax deductions for health-care
3. Eliminate the corporate income tax
4. Eliminate all income and payroll taxes
5. Drop the income tax, tax consumption
6. Legalize marijuana

Libertarians are the only party dedicated to eliminating income taxes and ending costly drug prohibition, and many Libertarian officeholders

President Obama is presiding over a new civil war. This war pits rich against poor, taxpayers versus tax-takers and unions against the private sector. Voters across this country who get checks from the government will vote for Mr. Obama to keep the checks coming, regardless of race. They want to be taken care of by government, from cradle to grave.

So this civil war is not about race, it’s about economic class, ambition, drive and work ethic…

…Mr. Obama actually said words that made me sick to my stomach and brought tears to my eyes. They are words so vile they are an affront to every American business owner and a reminder of his deep-seated hatred and resentment toward business owners. Mr. Obama said that business owners owe their success to government. He actually said that if you’ve built a business, you don’t get the credit. It’s government who has been by your side. You need to give government the credit.

Mr. Obama says government helped me every step of the way as a businessman. Really? With that kind of thinking, the only remaining question is whether he actually believes the absurd propaganda he spews.

Mr. Obama is right about one thing: Government is always by our side. Unfortunately, it ruins almost everything it touches…

…Government isn’t there helping me while I work 16-hour days, weekends, early mornings, late nights, holidays, birthdays and anniversaries. Government isn’t there when I make important decisions that affect the future of my business. Government isn’t there when I risk my hard-earned money and lose everything. Government isn’t there when I make pitches to potential clients that determine whether my business grows, stagnates or fails. Government isn’t there when I start each week at zero, as all entrepreneurs do every week. Government isn’t there, thank goodness, when I raise my family — though it tries to be…

…Government isn’t a savior or saint. Government resembles the Mafia. It is like organized crime with the weight of the law behind it. Under Mr. Obama, it is hell-bent on turning public sentiment against all of us who own businesses, destroying America’s belief in capitalism, and redistributing our incomes until our businesses are crippled or closed. Then government will be our only place to turn.Let’s avoid class warfare and a divided nation. Let’s pull back from the brink of a civil war. For the good of America and our children, let’s outsource Mr. Obama. If we are to save this economy, capitalism, our jobs and this country, Mr. Obama must go.

“Currently, the average Canadian household is more than $40,000 richer than the average American household.”

The paper adds: “And these are not 60-cent dollars, but Canadian dollars more or less at par with the U.S. greenback. Furthermore, these figures ignore public-sector (government) debt that presumably people on both sides of the border or their children will some day have to pay. Such debt is higher in the U.S. as a percentage of GDP than it is in Canada.”

How did we get there?

A Republican-and-Democrat engineered recession, followed by:

“At a certain point you’ve made enough money.”

“The private sector is doing fine.”

“If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.”

My commentary was quoted in Time magazine, and widely across the Internet. Yet as you read it again (below), look closely at the words. It could have been written today- after 4 consecutive months of disastrous jobs reports. Nothing has changed. Obama was a highly effective jobs killer back in 2010…just as he still is in 2012. Nothing happening to the economy today should come as a surprise. It was all clear on inauguration day 2009, as we installed a radical progressive in the White House who would spend, tax, and overwhelm the system with debt, stimulus, bailouts, and entitlements, bringing our economy to it’s knees. Perhaps someone should have listened.

None of this is a surprise to fiscal conservatives. We predicted it. We called it like Babe Ruth pointing to right field before hitting a home run to that exact spot. Maybe it’s time American voters listened to the people who got it all right.

Thirty-one percent (31%) say “the economy” is “the most important problem facing this country today.”  The second most pressing issue is “jobs,” coming in at 26 percent.

Combined, 57 percent of Americans cite jobs or the economy as the issue most in need of attention.  Immigration garnered only three percent.  Drugs, war and climate change did not even register on voter’s list of concerns.

The poll also found:

* “Seniors as well as Americans in households earning less than $30,000 annually join blacks in putting the greatest emphasis on unemployment and jobs as the nation’s top problem. By contrast, middle- and high-income Americans and those aged 18 through 64 are more likely to name ‘the economy.’”

* “Blacks focus more than either whites or Hispanics on unemployment as the nation’s top problem. However, whites worry more than blacks or Hispanics about the federal budget deficit…”

* “About 10% of adults in every major age group mention the federal budget deficit as the top problem, but it is of particular concern to Republicans (16%), adults earning $75,000 or more (12%), whites (11%), and men (11%). Relatively few blacks, Hispanics, low-income Americans, or Democrats mention the issue.”

But the real numbers are sobering, and worrisome for millions of Americans.

For one, in eleven of the last twelve months the initial unemployment figure has had to be “revised” to show it was higher than initially reported.  So, in fact, the employment rate may actually have increased in April.

And second, the unemployment rate is calculated as what percentage of the labor force do not have a job and are looking for one.  In April labor force participation plunged to 63.6 percent, the worst it’s been since December 1981.

The reason the unemployment rate fell is because the number of Americans who have given up looking for a job growing.  It’s certainly not because enough jobs are being created.

Employers added 115,000 jobs last month.  It’s the smallest increase in six months.

Even The Washington Post’s reliably liberal Ezra Klein tweeted “Unemployment rate down to 8.1%, but for the wrong reason: people dropping out of labor force.”

If labor force participation were the same as it were in March the unemployment rate would have risen to 8.4 percent.  Were it the same as when Obama took office, the unemployment rate would be over 10 percent.

Republicans gave us this unemployment crisis and Democrats have made it worse.

Isn’t it time we tried policies proven to create jobs?

Cut taxes on investment, cut taxes for working Americans, get rid of regulations that kill jobs including those put into place by politically-connected corporations to kill their competition, hurting workers and consumers in the process.

Only one party is founded on those principles, and is proven to put them into place wherever they have been elected.

Let’s get the economy growing again. Next time, vote Libertarian.

One word.  ObamaCare.

Three of the nation’s larger employers sat down with journalist John Stossel on his Fox Business Channel program.  Stossel describes the interview for Reason magazine.

Brad Anderson, CEO of Best Buy, explained to Stossel how ObamaCare prevents employers from creating new businesses by imposing future costs that have yet to be determined.

“If I was trying to get you to fund a new business I had started and you asked me what my payroll was going to be three years from now per employee, if I went to the deepest specialist in the industry, he can’t tell me what it’s actually going to cost, let alone what I’m going to be responsible for,” said Anderson.

“You would think a piece of legislation more than a thousand pages long would at least be clear about the specifics. But a lot of those pages say: ‘The secretary will determine …’ That means the secretary of Health and Human Services will announce the rules sometime in the future. How can a business make plans in such a fog?,” writes Stossel

Even worse, ObamaCare endangers the health of Americans who can’t afford insurance on their own.

John Allison, former CEO of BB&T, explained to Stossel how Obamacare encourages employers to drop health insurance for employees.  Under the law, employers are forced to insure their employees. Employers who fail to insure their employees, but the $2,000 penalty is lower than the cost of a policy.

“What that means is in theory every company ought to dump their plan on the government plan and pay the penalty,” he said. “So you don’t really know what the cost is because it’s designed to fail.”  Companies that continue to offer insurance would run higher operating costs, which could force them out of business in a slow economy — costing thousands of jobs.

Who are hardest hit by ObamaCare’s onslaught of costs, regulation and government mandates?  Those on the lower rungs of the employment ladder.

“An owner of 12 IHOPs told me that he can’t expand his business because he can’t afford the burden of Obamacare. Many of his waitresses work part time or change jobs every few months. He hadn’t been insuring them, but Obamacare requires him to. He says he can’t make money paying a $2,000 penalty for every waitress, so he’s cancelled his plans to expand. It’s one more reason why job growth hasn’t picked up post-recession,” writes Stossel.

Want to kill jobs?  Inject the economy with higher costs, more government regulations and more government mandates — and do it in an arbitrary, unpredictable manner.

In that vein, ObamaCare is a lethal dose of economic poison, and the poorest Americans are suffering the most.
