LP/LNCC donate $55K to LP Indianapolis city councilman’s re-elect race
The Libertarian National Committee and Libertarian National Campaign Committee have donated $5r,000 to the campaign of Ed Coleman, a Libertarian incumbent running for re-election to the Indianapolis-Marion County City-County Council in a partisan race this Nov. 8.
Coleman, elected as a Republican in 2007, switched to the Libertarian Party in early 2009 after the local GOP sought to punish him for opposing spending millions of tax dollars in a bad economy on a new stadium for multi-million dollar professional sports teams. Currently holding one of of the council’s four at-large seats in 2007, he represents nearly one million residents.
This year he is running to represent the 24th District, located in southeast Indianapolis. The switch gives Coleman a smaller body of voters to campaign to, greatly increasing his chances of winning. He faces a Republican challenger in a two-way matchup. There is no Democrat or any other candidate in the race.
“This is not just a game-changer for my race, but also for the entire Libertarian Party,” said Councilor Ed Coleman. “We hope this serves as a signal to all elected Republicans and Democrats that standing on principle doesn’t mean campaigning alone. The party of principle will work to help elect and re-elect Libertarians to make true change in the political arena.
